The PokerStars Macau poker room at Casino Grand Lisboa is set to host the quarterly Macau Poker Cup from Sept. 1-5. The series features six tournaments, including a charity event that benefits a local aid organization, plus live satellites to the flagship Red Dragon tournament, which will begin on Sept. 3.

The Macau Poker Cup’s Red Dragon tournament is a three-day event with the only regular high buy-in in Asia (HKD $10,000). The event attracts the top players from across the country and all over the world as the prize pool normally exceeds the guarantee of HKD $2,000,000 (approximately USD $258,000). The poker room will be holding satellites to the Red Dragon event beginning Aug. 30 and will run them until Day 1B of the tournament gets underway on Sept. 4.

Here’s a look at the schedule of events for the upcoming Macau Poker Cup:

Event #1 — Sept. 1: HKD $2,000 Knockout Tournament ($125,000 Guaranteed)

Event #2 — Sept 2: HKD $1,000 Charity Event ($50,000 added prizes)

Event #3 — Sept. 2: HKD $3,000 No Limit Hold ‘em Two-Day Event ($350,000 Guaranteed)

Event #4 — Sept. 3: HKD $1,500 Deep Stack ($100,000 Guaranteed)

Event #5 ? Sept. 4-5: HKD $10,000 Red Dragon Event ($2,000,000 Guaranteed)

Event #6 ? Sept. 5: HKD $5,000 No Limit Hold ‘em Event ($400,000 Guaranteed)

PokerStars Macau recorded its most successful Macau Poker Cup ever in July, awarding a total of HKD $4,257,400 in prize money during the six scheduled events. Kenichi Takarabe from Japan outlasted 295 players in the featured Red Dragon event and won HKD $620,100. Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang (Singapore) held the chip lead for the majority of the tournament but Takarabe overcame a chip disadvantage heads-up to win the trophy.

PokerStars Macau also recently hosted the Macau Millions this month, and the field of 714 players broke an Asia-based poker tournament record of 679 set by the PokerStars.net Filipino Poker Tour at the Metro Card Club. Hong Kong’s Justin Chan was crowned the champion, booking a win of $275,000 after five grueling days on the felt.

PokerStars Team Asia, made up of four up-and-coming young local Asia based players, is expected take part in the Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon event in September. The team includes the aforementioned Huang, one of the highest earning Singaporean players of all time at just 24 years of age, plus Raymond Wu, Tae Jun “Skat tilt” Noh, and Celina Lin, the lone female on the team and winner of the Red Dragon event in July 2009. Lin collected nearly HKD $400,000 for the victory, her largest win to date. She also won a HKD $1,000 No Limit Hold ‘em Rebuy event at the Macau Poker Cup in December 2008 and holds the all-time record for final tables at the Macau Poker Cup with nine.
